                 CT Prime Timers

Charles Anthony

Started in 2006 by Charles Anthony, who currently serves as President, The CT Prime Timers is a social networking club for senior Gay men and of course, their admirers! The Primer Timers is a worldwide organization still going strong after 26 years. Our local chapter offers a wide variety of social opportunities, including Movie Nights, Book Club, monthly Brunch gatherings, Bus trips to Jacobs Pillow, Montreal, Newport, RI, Radio City Music Hall and many more. But this is an organization that does so very much more than offer a social outlet for its members. They award two $1,000.00 scholarships yearly to LGBTI youth and participate in a Holiday Season Gift program to benefit LGBTI youth as well. And they have an active Outreach Program to provide companionship and social opportunities to senior Gay men living in Assisted Living or Skilled Nursing facilities. In our society, in which so many have rejected or marginalized not just their Gay but often any senior family member, The CT Prime Timers works hard to make sure their members feel part of a caring, socially active  and FUN extended Family Circle.

Court.pngThe Imperial Sovereign Court of All Connecticuts mission and purpose is to provide a social union securing equality, liberty and justice by promoting positive morale and pride to the community at large. The goal is to raise needed funds for community and social service organization by providing a social environment for people with the same interests as those of the court and promote positive community awareness.

This years recipients of the fund raising efforts of the Imperial Sovereign Court of All CT are True Colors, GLSEN (The Gay, Lesbian, Straight Education Network) and The Jim Collins Foundation. (The mission of the Jim Collins Foundation is to provide financial assistance to transgender people for gender-confirming surgeries.)

The Imperial Court System was founded in San Francisco in 1965 Jose Sarria, also known as Absolute Empress I, The Widow Norton. Sarria, now affectionately known as Mama or Mama Jose among Imperial Court members, devised the name Widow Norton as a reference to Joshua Norton, a much celebrated citizen of 19th century San Franciso, who had declared himself Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico in 1859.  Sarria soon became the nexus of a fundraising group of volunteers members bearing titles of nobility bestowed by the yearly elected leaders.  Typical titles awarded are Imperial Crown Prince or Princess, Grand Duke/Duchess, Marquess, Viscount, etc. While largely made up of gays and lesbians, each court is open to anyone wishing to help raise money for charities. Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and heterosexual people have all served as monarchs and court members in the systems history.

MCC is a compassionate community of faith, and a spiritual home where all people can experience the liberating love of God.
